Chrysler offering millions to dealers and consumers to move 2006 inventory

This looks like a good time to take a serious look at a new 300C.
Source: [The Detroit News]
300c_srt8_vs_bmw_m5Chrysler has put into effect two campaigns that it hopes will start clearing out the lots of last year’s inventory. The first is aimed at the dealers themselves and involves about $500 million in dealer cash incentives to sell 2006 models. Dealers will earn an additional $2,500 to $7,000 for every 2006 model they sell. The easiest to sell models like the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 will earn dealers $2,500 unit per unit, while the tough sell trucks and SUVs like the Ram pickup and Durango will fetch a hard-earned $7,000 per unit. Consumers will be happy to know that on average Chrysler passes 85% of that money on to consumers The coupon mailing is the largest ever sent about Chrysler, and while the dealer cash is not being advertised to the public, you heard it here that these double discounts are in effect and now might be the best time to pick up that 300C you’ve had your eye on.

Used car values for Chrysler 300C CRD now higher than list price

The British have taken the Chrysler 300C CRD to heart it seems, as Glass’s Guide indicates that the price of used diesel 300C saloon is now in excess of the list price of a new car.
Peter Lambert is quoted that: “The 300C, well into its second year, has clearly established itself in the market place. Demand for new and used 300C continues to exceed supply and this has played a major part in maintaining used values at their high levels. via easier Motoring

The 2007 Chrysler 300C is on Automobilemag's All-Starlist, they say The "Chrysler 300C has the three years into production, has maintained its unchallenged domination for the title of Signature American Sedan". That makes sense to me.

Future of the 300C

On Nov21st Chrysler revealed sketches that may suggest the future direction of the Chrysler 300C . "It could be the face of the future Chrysler cars, though certainly none of that has been decided," Chrysler spokesman Rick Deneau said.
He said Chrysler released the sketches nearly two months before the Detroit auto show in a bid to gauge public reaction to the concept models. Erich Merkle, an auto analyst with Grand Rapids-based IRN Inc is quoted that "It's more curvaceous and doesn't have quite that block look that the 300C provides"

2007 Chrysler 300C CRD

If you are in France you could have a 300CRD (common-rail diesel) with a Mercedes-Benz a 215-hp, turbocharged and intercooled, 3.0-liter diesel V-6. With 376 lb-ft of torque, just 11 lb-ft less than the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, this engine propels the 300 to 62 mph in 7.6 seconds, only 1.2 seconds slower than the Hemi. And it returns an average of 29 mpg when cruising at 80 mph. Unfortunately, the 300C CRD isn't offered in America. The diesel's abundant torque, available from idle, means that the car always feels lively. The 300C CRD's top speed is 141 mph-WOW !

I'm partial to this style of P.Miller's Signature PM506. They are really cool.

Performance Under the Hood

Want to beef up what's under the hood, looking for some hot headers and exhaust?
Over at Tbyrne Motorsports they are offering some good prices on JBA Headers/Exhaust through a group purchase process. The "Fine Print" for this can be seen in the Group Purchase section on their website. They need 10 or more orders by Monday, November 20th for this to go through. The first batch will be ordered as soon as they receive 10 orders.
JBA has been building and testing headers for the 5.7L HEMI since it was introduced in 2003. JBA has spent countless hours testing and tuning to engineer the perfect exhaust for the Magnum and Charger including SRT8 models. The end result is an ultra high flow system that makes real power with the authentic sound of a true muscle car without annoying interior resonance common on other systems.

"Dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of 1955 through 1965 Chrysler 300 Letter Series cars plus the 1970 300 Hurst."

Chrysler Imperial Concept Car

Some are impressed with the Chrysler Imperial concept car unveiled in January this year at the North American International Auto show. From MercuryNews.com:
The idea here is to question whether there's space in the Chrysler lineup above and beyond the iconic 300C sedan. The Imperial is a huge, tall car, as in 17 inches longer and six inches taller than a 300. It's an evocative statement similar in its classical stance to such popular Chrysler concepts as the Atlantic from 1995. Most, though, see the current Rolls-Royce Phantom when they see the Imperial concept. (Not coincidentally, many see a Bentley when they see Chrysler's 300 sedan.)

Reaction to the Imperial has been mixed. Dan Lienert on Forbes.com proclaimed it one of the year's 10 coolest concepts and characterized it as ``another stab from Chrysler at bringing sinister looks back into American sedans.'' But Motor Trend wrote that the ``Detroit show reaction can be most charitably described as `lukewarm,' with one wag describing it as a cross between the Rolls Phantom and the Checker Marathon.''"
All I know is, Chrysler seems to be batting 1000 when it comes to cool car design and production. Or maybe it's all in the marketing?

Stretch 300C

A longer 300C is in store according to UK Car Publications, WhatCar?
Long-wheelbase versions of the imposing Chrysler 300C Saloon and Touring estate will be revealed at the New York Motor Show in April, and they may soon appear in the UK.

The stretched 300C's wheelbase is 152mm longer, all of which is used to enhance rear legroom. It will be sold in the US from this autumn with the 250bhp 3.5-litre V6 and 335bhp 5.7-litre V8 petrol engines already found in the standard car. If they arrive in the UK too, they're sure to also be available with the 215bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel.
This makes the 300c a good competitor to the Lincoln TownCar as a "short limo" I think.

300C Back from the Repair Shop

After a week, and almost $4000 later, I finally got my 300C back from the repair shop. After riding around in a Nissan Sentra, getting back into the more aptly sized 300C was a welcome relief.

They did a good job on the repairs, which were mostly not cosmetic. The trunk had a small dent in it and the rear sensors were knocked out on the passenger side. I also had a few small dents/scratches repaired on the front driver side fender and hood. Looks like new. It should for $4000 freaking dollars.

While the repair shop people were very nice and did a good job, the one thing I thought sucked was this. I recieved an estimate from the repair shop to fix everything for $3000. The insurance company of the person that hit me sent an adjuster and they gave an estimate of $3400. So I was sent a $3400 check. Then the repair shop called to say there was "additional damage" underneath. They said the additional costs for that would be paid directly to the repair shop. Fine.

When they called to tell me the car was ready, I asked what the total damage was - pun intented, and they said $3400, just like the estimate. I corrected her, looking at a printout of the only estimate they ever gave me, that should have been $3000. Her response was that they always go by the adjuster/insurance company estimate.

Now that's a load of crap if you ask me. Not because I was trying to make $400, but because if the insurance company estimate would have come in under the repair shop estimate, guess who would be paying the difference? Me.

But when the insurance company estimate comes in over the repair shop estimate, they get to keep the difference. Ha, smells like pain and suffering to me.

No matter how nice the repair shop people were, and the work they did, I will never go back to them again because I think it's slimy to play this situation the way they did.

I'm not so annoyed as to mention who they are, since this blog gets about 500 visitors a day on average. But word of mouth, good or bad, can be a lot more powerful.

In the end, I'm really just happy to have my car back.

300C Repair

Well, my 300C has been in the shop 3 days so far. I got a call from them today saying that there was more damage than they thought. Bad news. But they called the insurance company of the person that rear-ended me and they seemed to be fine with it. Pretty damn cool if you ask me.

What's not cool is not having my car. If I get it back by Friday I'll be lucky. Not having a car for a week simply sucks.

For photos of other unlucky 300C owners, check out this 300C Damage link.
